Plastic is made in factories using oil that comes from deep under the ground. Many objects around you are made of plastic — bottles, bags, pens, toothbrushes and shoes. Plastic is usually long-lasting. This means that it takes a long time to break down. If we do not recycle or reuse plastic objects, there will be a lot of plastic waste.
Fabric is a material that can come from animals or plants. Wool comes from sheep. Wool is used to make sweaters to keep us warm. Silk comes from a kind of caterpillar. Silk is used to make scarves, clothing and bedsheets. Cotton comes from a plant. Cotton is used to make shirts and towels. Objects are made up of various types of materials: wood, metal, ceramic, rubber, glass, plastic and fabric.
