🟢 Paragraph 1 · Diversity and Classification 多样性与分类
There is a great variety of living and non-living things around us. This is called diversity. In order to better understand the diversity of things around us, we group them based on similarities — characteristics that things have in common. Grouping things based on their similarities is called classification. There are different ways to present our classification — we can use pictures, a table, or a graphic organiser.
Living things include flowers, plants, animals and people. In a bedroom, the flowers, boy and cat are all living things. Living things share common characteristics — they need food, water and air to survive. Living things can also grow, respond to changes and reproduce.
Non-living things include beds, books, tables, chairs, pencils, rulers, pencil cases, toy cars and toy bears. They do not grow, respond to changes or reproduce. They do not need food, water or air. There is a great diversity of living and non-living things around us.
