All living things need water to survive. We need water to carry out our daily activities. We need water to digest food. We need water to removewaste from our body. Plants need water to make food. When you feel thirsty, it can mean that your body needs more water. Generally, humans can survive without water for up to three days.
All living things need food. Food provides living things with energy. We eat food such as rice, meat, vegetables and fruits. Cows graze on grass for food. Plants do not need to eat food. Plants can make their own food when there is light. A young plant uses sunlight and water to grow. In the first few months of life, babies only drink milk and do not eat any solid food.
Most living things that live on land need air to survive. Living things breathe in air that contains oxygen. Without air, both plants and animals will die. A boy swimming underwater wears a mask with an air outlet. Mountain climbers going to the top of Mount Everest carry their own oxygen tanks because there is very little oxygen in the air at the top of the mountain. All living things need water, food and air.
